10 countries whose citizens have healthy teeth

Having a bright white smile and straight teeth is wonderful, but having a healthy smile is even better. Find out which countries can boast the best dental scores because their citizens have the healthiest and most beautiful teeth in the world.

How did countries achieve been ranked?

The list is based on each country's scores on the CAOD index (decayed, missing or filled teeth). It is the most reliable and widely accepted method for assessing the oral health status of an entire population. The creators of the list also consulted data from the World Health Organization (WHO), country oral health profiles and the World Oral Health Report. With all this data compiled and reviewed, this list of 10 countries whose citizens have healthy teeth accurately reflects the global dental situation.

1. Denmark

Denmark takes first place, with an impressive score of 0.4. This score reveals that of all those surveyed and monitored, the average citizen had less than half of a tooth that required special attention or presented problems. These are clean, immaculate teeth!

2. Germany

Thanks to a very low score of just 0.5 on the CAOD index, Germany comes second on our list. People in this country enjoy top-quality dental care and are conscientious about their personal oral hygiene.

3. Finland

Finland takes third place on the list, with an outstanding score of 0.7, thanks to quality dental care available throughout the country.

4. Sweden

With a CAOD score of 0.8, Sweden is in the top five. Its citizens have some of the cleanest, whitest, and straightest teeth in the world.

5. United Kingdom

The United Kingdom shares an identical CAOD score to Sweden, which also places it in the top 5. This score is particularly interesting because of the old (now false) stereotype of British citizens with bad teeth.

6. Switzerland

Unsurprisingly, Switzerland scored high thanks to its advanced medical and dental programs. Its CAOD score was 0.9, meaning that the average citizen who participated in the CAOD survey had fewer than one tooth in poor condition.

7. Canada

It occupies seventh place with an excellent score of 1.0. Dental care in Canada ranks higher than that in the United States. Not only did the country achieve a good DMFT score, but studies and reports show that its population's teeth are among the whitest and straightest in the world.

8. Mexico

Mexico's budget is not very large, but its dental care system appears to be effective. Mexico scores 1.1 for CAOD.

9. The United States

One might expect the United States to be at the top of the list. Its score of 1.2 is excellent compared to other nations around the world, but other countries simply have better dental care statistics.

10. France

France has a CAOD score of 1.2, which is quite good. Its score was actually equal to that of the United States, but due to some additional factors, including declining health care budgets, France ranked lower. Although it doesn't do as well as the other countries on this list, it still ranks in the top 10.
