On March 20 of each year, the FDI (International Dental Federation) organizes World Oral Health Day by asking the world to come together to help reduce the global burden of oral diseases, which affect individuals, health systems and economies around the world.

< p>The next three years' campaign sends a simple, yet powerful message:

"BE PROUD OF YOUR MOUTH"

In other words, value your mouth and take care of it.

Here's how to maintain a healthy mouth throughout your life:

• Brush your teeth for two minutes, twice a day. Brushing your teeth helps remove food debris and plaque, which can cause cavities and periodontal disease if neglected.

• Brush every surface. Use a manual or electric toothbrush to brush the inside, outside and chewing surface of your teeth,

• Use fluoridated toothpaste. Fluoride plays a major role in fighting dental caries,

• Do not rinse your mouth after brushing. This can remove the protective fluorine. Simply spit out the excess toothpaste,

• Change your toothbrush every three months. Using an old, frayed toothbrush does not clean your teeth and mouth well,

• Floss at least once a day. Floss and interdental cleaners help reach hard-to-reach areas between teeth. Regular cleaning helps dislodge food and can reduce the risk of periodontal disease and bad breath by removing plaque that forms along the gums,

• Take care of your mouth outside of the home YOU. When you can't brush your teeth, reach for a fluoride mouthwash or sugar-free gum after lunch or a snack,

Good oral health can keep you going healthier and longer.
